Why I decided to start A Dash of Rose Marie….
It was last year in 2024 that I came to the realization that, while I have many fond memories of my mum surrounding food, I cannot remember more than a handful of recipes or meals that were her own. Food is one of my love languages and I know from experience that those memories can begin to fade. I want to ensure that my own kids and their kids will have something tangable to remember the fun times and the love shared over food. So I have started this food blog. To honour my mums love of a good recipe, to share the food my family loves and to remind me to keep track of the fun times that we can have with cooking.

A little about me ….
Hi I am Crystal Rose
I am a mum and wife. I love to create in all types of ways. From making food, to sewing, to home decorating and crafting. I always have a creative project on my mind. When I was younger, I was not a fan of cooking at all and I was definitely not any good at it either. My first batch of cookies broke a tooth and my first cake was both green and very burnt. I remember bawling my eyes out when my mum told me that I had to learn how to cook. Once I got the hang of it, it became another creative outlet. I became terrible at following recipe (or writing them down either). I started to compete with my mum in the kitchen and we would have fun little dinner or dessert battles where my young sisters would have to choose a victor. Now I show my love through food, I bring baked goods with me when ever we see family or friends. I cook every day for my husband and kids and I make try to make fun and memorable food whenever I can.

A little about my mum…
Her name was Linda Marie and she loved food. Her dreams always surrounded food, from a young age she wanted to be a chef and eventually that dream became to have her own truckstop. Where she would serve hearty comfort meals and sweet baked goods. Any time you walked into our living room you would see the food network playing on the TV while she jotted down notes from the recipes. Or she was cutting out recipes and celebrity gossip pages from a big pile of magazines that she had just picked up from the second hand shop. Only about 1% of those recipes would ever be tried. I think she liked collecting the recipes and food knowledge more than actually experimenting in the kitchen because her favorites were all the classic comfort meals. We didn’t have a lot growing up, being a single mum with 3 girls was tough, but she always made food a priority. We each had our favourite foods for any celebration and family/ friend gatherings where always abundant with good food. Sadly we lost my mum in 2015 to ovarian cancer, she was only 45 years old.
