Why should you make your own crackers?
I think that question should be more like why shouldn’t you make your own crackers!
Are you are trying to cut down on store brought snacks?
Want something a little bit more special for making a charcuterie board? Or do you just want the simple bliss that comes from a delightfully crunchy and cheesy homemade cracker?
Making your own crackers is as easy as blitz, roll, cut and bake. With 4 simple ingredients and no chilling time, required you can quickly whip up a batch of homemade cheese crackers in no time at all.

Flavor ideas for some not so simple cheese crackers
For this recipe I have kept these crackers in their most basic form. Just flour, butter, cheese and milk. But one of the best things about making your own crackers is adjusting the flavors to make your own fun combos.
Add 1-2 teaspoons of herbs, spices etc for a completely different flavor option. Here are some ideas to get you started…
Garlic and herb
Chilli and lime zest
Rosemary and lemon zest
Black pepper
Taco seasoning
For your cheese, use any firm grate-able cheese that you have on hand. Otherwise you can choose a cheese to match whatever flavour profile you want to boost. Cheddar, Edam, Colby, Swiss, Parmesan etc will all work well for this recipe.

Storage and making ahead
Any leftover, cooked crackers will store really well in a sealed container or snap lock bag for up to a week. If you can make them last that long that is.
For those times where you want to prep ahead for a special occasion or make a double batch, freezing the dough is your best option. After you have cut and spread the dough out on baking trays simply place the trays into the freezer. Freeze for at least one hour before transferring the frozen pieces into a snap lock bag.
When you are ready to bake these just place the frozen crackers on lined baking sheets. Bake at 180 degrees for 13 minutes or until puffed and golden.
