How to serve your skeleton bone bread rolls
These tasty rolls are such a fun addition to any meal, and with Halloween fast approaching I like to add a little spookiness to as many meals as I can. These rolls are the perfect addition to do that!
Serve these up as a side dish with delicious spooky skull pizza, roasted tomato soup or some pumpkin pasta!
These bone bread rolls even work well as a bun for filling with your favourite sandwich or burger filling.
These would be absolutely adorable packed into lunch boxed as ham and cheese sandwiches for Halloween.

Ingredients and substitutions
Butter – I always use salted butter, its cheaper and its what I have on hand 99% of the time. If you use unsalted, then add about half a teaspoon of salt to compensate.
Yeast – Instant yeast is what I use most of the time but regular active yeast is fine too.
Sugar – I use icing sugar for these as it is much lighter and finer than regular granulated sugar. This helps keep the dough light and fluffy and it doesn’t change the taste. You can substitute this for regular granulated sugar or 3 tablespoons of honey if you do not have icing sugar on hand.
Flour – I use regular plain white baking flour. If you would rather use a high grade flour then feel free to. You can even mix and match with a little bit of whole meal flour if you like. If you do then you may just want to add an extra tablespoon of milk to keep these soft.
Cornflour – This is added to make the buns have a finer, softer crumb. You can switch it out for arrowroot or just use regular flour if you don’t have any on hand.
Garlic, herbs and cheese – Once you have tried this as a garlic filled bone bread roll, feel free to substitute these out for whatever spices and flavoring you like. You can even switch things up and turn these into cinnamon roll bones if you want a sweeter option!

Can you make these bone bread rolls in advance
Absolutely ! These are OK to make the day ahead as they are quite a soft bread. Store them in an airtight container in a cool dry place for up to 3 days.
You can also freeze the dough and make these just before serving. To do this you will need to prepare your rolls and place them in the freezer as soon as they are shaped. Freeze them on a baking tray and transfer them to an airtight container or snap lock bag to store. When you want to bake them you can place them onto a lined baking tray at room temperature. Allow them to defrost fully and rise to double the size (approx 3 hours depending on the weather). Once they are defrosted and have risen you can bake and serve them.
