  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 50 g butter melted
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon crushed garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup grated cheese plus extra for sprinkling on top
  • 1/4 cup diced jalapenos
  • Cooking oil for greasing
  • Milk for brushing onto buns before baking

Method

  1. Combine the yeast, warm water and honey in a medium sized bowl. Mix well and leave your 5 minutes to allow the yeast to activate and become bubbly.
  2. Add the melted butter and 1 1/2 cup of your flour. Mix well for 1-2 minutes. The mixture will be smooth and elastic when it is mixed enough.
  3. Add in your remaining flour, garlic, salt, jalapenos and cheese and mix together until well combined and the dough has formed into a rough ball.
  4. Place a little oil on your hands and knead the dough for 1-2 minutes. Keep working the dough until it forms a smooth ball.
  5. Oil a clean bowl before placing your dough it the center. Cover the surface of the dough with a little oil and make deep indents into the dough using your fingertips
  6. Set dough in a warm place to rise for 1 hour, or until the dough has doubled in size.
  7. When your dough has risen, split it into 8 evenly sized pieces. The sections should be about 110g each. Form each section into a smooth bun. Place your buns onto a lined baking tray with about 2cm gap between them. Leave them in a warm place to rise for an hour or until doubled in size.
  8. Preheat your oven to 170 degrees, fan bake.
  9. Once your buns have risen, brush the surface of the buns with a little bit of milk and then sprinkle a little bit of cheese on top.
  10. Bake for 25 minutes or until your buns are golden and cooked through.
