Which chocolate do you use for chocolate chip cookies?

Whatever chocolate you want! You have two factors to consider when choosing the chocolate for your chocolate chip cookies. The type of chocolate and the style of pieces. Here is a handy guide to help you make the perfect chocolate chip cookies for you!

Type of chocolate

Dark – The classic addition to chocolate chip cookies. Dark chocolate adds a richness and slight bitterness to the flavor of your cookie. This helps combat the sweetness of the cookie itself.

Milk – The sweet tooth’s choice. Milk chocolate is a sweeter choice to dark while still keeping the classic style.

White – Extra sweet and with a subtle chocolate chip cookie look. This is a great extra addition for adding less sweet add ins like as nuts or dried fruit. You can even make reverse chocolate chip cookies with white chocolate chips and a chocolate cookie base.

Style of the pieces

Chips – Store brought chocolate chips will hold their shape when baking. When you use chocolate chips your cookies will have solid, firm chocolate pieces when the cookies cool down.

Chunks – Chopped chocolate blocks, bars or buttons will give you a totally different result. The chunks will melt into the cookie dough slightly with the smaller crumbs dissolving almost entirely. This gives your chocolate chip cookies a smoother texture overall.

Other cookie add ins
