Wake The Dead Halloween Party

Host your own wake the dead Halloween party
A Halloween party that is so good it will wake the dead!
Set the scene with skeletons, gravestones and moss.
Once the dead have risen then you can all feast on deliciously spooky foods and play some fun games.
This is the perfect theme for both kids and adults. Keep things simple with classic Halloween decorations and foods or you can really maximize on the scare factor with as much gore and creepiness as you can manage.

Decorations
Green, black, white and brown decorations will work best with the wake the dead theme. Use lots of skeletons, gravestones, and ghosts to really set the scene. You can also add balloons, spider webs and banners if you want to really go all out.
Decorate your table to look like a spooky graveyard. A thick green tablecloth with some extra tattered pieces of fabric in black, brown or white layered on top looks great. Place taller skeletal creatures and skulls in the center along with some candles to add moody lighting. Cover your skulls in fake moss to make the scene look aged.

Invitations
Invitations set the scene for your party before people even arrive. I always like to do handmade invitations. They can be simple and cute or really elaborate.
These coffin shaped invitations are super easy to make but they are sure to impress. To make these, type your party info out in the shape of a coffin. Cut that out and cut a matching coffin shape from decorative Halloween themed scrapbook paper. Cut black card into coffin shapes that are slightly larger that your previously cut pieces. Adhere the info and decorative paper to either side of black card. You can tea stain your info page to add a spooky aged effect. Make as many invitations as you need and be sure to hand them out early!

Menu
My favorite part of planning for Halloween is picking out some fun and spooky food to match the theme. Choose a few simple nibbles for a low effort party or go all out and make a feast that the dead would rise for!
Here are some of my favorite recipes to match the wake the dead theme…

Games and activities
Skeleton hunt – Hide mini skeletons in small buckets that are filled with gross textures. Slime, Orbeez, spaghetti, and feathers are all good options. Get creative and find things that will gross out your guests or make the search for the skeleton more difficult. Cover each bucket with a piece of fabric so that the searchers cannot see what they are searching through.
Zombie creep – Played like whats the time Mr wolf. The gravedigger stands at the front and the zombies stand in a line at a distance behind them. When the gravediggers back is turned the zombies creep forward when the gravedigger turns around, the zombies must freeze. Any zombie caught moving goes back to the start line. The winner is the first zombie to turn the gravedigger into a zombie by touching them on the shoulder while their back is still turned.
Wrap the mummy – Split up into teams then race to wrap a team member in toilet paper. Set up a small obstacle course or a couple of challenges for your mummies to complete for bonus points. The team with the best wrapped mummy wins.
Zombie Nerf war – Bring out the Nerf guns and set the kids free. Place some large gravestones around the yard to use as shelter for an extra element of fun.

Goodies and favors
Homemade sherbet is a great option for a Halloween party favor. With its sour fizzy texture it is not only delicious, it is fun to eat too. Place a heaped tablespoon of sherbet into a cellophane bag along with a Halloween themed lollipop to dip into it. Close the bag with a themed sticker and hand it out to guests as they leave.
Other options for party favors are, wind up toys, mini skeletons, stickers, small bags of mixed candies, a small bottle of edible fake blood or a chocolate dipped shortbread bone cookie.

I hope you have so much fun throwing your own event using some (or all) of these ideas from this wake the dead Halloween party guide.
